Design boards are a fantastic way to communicate design ideas with your clients - they allow you to see what your furniture and decor will look like all together in a lifelike setup. I make one of these for each of my e-design clients using the exact pieces I’ve chosen for their rooms and then share it with them in DesignFiles* and I’ve used a lot of different software over the years to make them. Photoshop has risen to the top as my favorite tool, but I know that it can be pretty intimidating if you’ve never used it before.

Every time I share a design board here or on Instagram, I get questions about how I created it and what software I used. Whenever I say Photoshop, the response is typically something along the lines of, “Oh, I’ve wanted to learn how to use that, but it’s always seemed really complicated!” or, “I’ve tried Photoshop in the past, but I didn’t get very far.”

Well, they’re not wrong - it IS a little bit complicated and not the most intuitive software, but that’s mostly because you can do so much with it! It allows you to do things like remove backgrounds from products, arrange them in perspective for dimension, and add architectural features that make them look realistic. This course shows you how to do all of that and much more.

We’ll start with the basics and get oriented to the Photoshop workspace, then move into learning the tools you need to know to build your boards. After watching those bite-sized videos, you’ll be ready to start putting full rooms together! You’ll get to watch four rooms come together and practice it yourself as well. By the end, you’ll have the foundation you need to go out and create boards with your own designs!
